Open Access, and in short OA, refers to a publishing model and broad international movement where academic research is made freely available online to the reader at no cost.

There are no financial, legal, or technical barriers, meaning that anyone can read, download, copy, and distribute the article, which is different from the traditional subscription models where the reader pays a fee to obtain access to scholarly information.
